NCAA College Soccer Champions

This past Sunday afternoon at WakeMed Soccer Park located in Cary, North Carolina, the University of Virginia Men's Soccer program were crowned NCAA National Champions. After 110 scoreless minutes of brutal, fast-pace, skillful soccer, the Virginia Cavaliers defeated UCLA in a 4-2 penalty shootout.

Virginia being the 16th seed defied all odds to make the historic championship run which gave the University of Virginia their 7th National Championship for soccer. They overcame some of the top teams within the nation such as beating nationally ranked #2 UCLA in the championship and also beating the top ranked team in the tournament Notre Dame in the round of sixteen. Virginia is now matched as the second lowest seed to win the NCAA Tournament since they implemented the new seeding bracket in 2003.

Vagina's roster consists of 14 freshman, 4 sophomores, 7 juniors, and 9 seniors. They have 2 assistant coaches; Terry Boss and Oliver Gage. Along with the 2 assistants, the associate head coach is Matt Chulis and the head coach is George Gelnovatch.

Now that NCAA College Soccer has officially came to a close there is only one active top flight soccer league still in league play within America, which is the Major Arena Soccer League.

As we all await for soccer season to start back up for the majority, let us keep you up to date on the latest Major Arena Soccer League news, updates, scores, and more!

A Lifestyle

A Lifestyle

Today I want to show everyone something about how the beautiful game became so beautiful. I often ponder what makes soccer more than just "a sport" to almost everyone of us. What is the fire that sparks the passion in us for the beloved sport?

As I thought about it for awhile I realized what makes soccer such a beautiful thing. I understood what it actually means to be in the soccer world or to be called a "footballer". It means soccer is not just a game or just a sport. See, soccer is a lifestyle for many people across the globe. To millions of people soccer is their sport, their hobby, and their life. The game has given life and a chance for happiness to millions.

Soccer is what brings people together. No matter your size, height, gender, ethnicity, race, social class, or income, soccer is therefor you. The game can bring the wealthiest most fit and socially popular person on earth together with the poorest of poor child living without a roof over their head with just the pass of a ball.

No matter who you are or what you do the second you step foot onto the pitch or throw on your club's jersey, you become a footballer.

Below are a few of the most famous soccer players who started out with nothing until soccer gave them everything.

  1. Pele
  2. Ronaldo Luis Nazario
  3. Ronaldinho
  4. Marta
  5. Patrick Oboya

These are a few of the world class soccer players who grew up in some of the poorest areas in the world. The list could go on and on, but stop at 5 so you can do a bit of searcher for yourself!

Playoff Expansion

Major League Soccer Playoff Expansion

I don't think any Major League Soccer fan would disagree with me when I say that MLS Playoff's time is the best time of the year. There are so many things to look forward to with Thanksgiving turkeys, Christmas hot coco, and nothing other than MLS playoff matches. With Major League Soccer expanding the playoffs starting in the 2015 season what does this mean? Would it be more teams the merrier, or is the expression "less is actually more" a liable bet?

For the many that are just finding out, Major League Soccer has decided to expand playoffs starting within the 2015 season. The league will most likely make the official announcement by the end of this week or early next week. As of right now the past 4 MLS seasons qualified 10 teams to advance onto the playoffs, which means approximately 53% of the teams within the league advance. Starting in 2015 a whopping 12 teams will advance to the playoffs. Remember there will be 20 teams within the league next year instead of previously 19, but that being said 60% of the MLS teams will advance to the playoffs next year. That is by far the largest percentage of teams advancing to the playoffs when compared to any other professional sport in America.

Many Major League Soccer fans are upset with such the high number and feel that more teams in the playoffs does not actually equal more playoffs. Fans across America are taking their anger to Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, and virtually every corner of the internet. The viewers and followers of the league want making it to the playoffs to actually be an accomplishment. Once the playoffs have arrived MLS fans want to watch Major League Soccer's best and brightest teams as well, instead of Major League Soccer's best, brightest, and mediocre teams.

Although the expanding of Major League Soccer Playoffs has caused and uproar of anger, there is a missing chunk that the angered fans or followers are not seeing. The league is not expanding the number to give more teams the chance to make the playoffs. The league does not want 60% of the teams advancing to the playoffs just like all of us. So why is the MLS expanding the playoffs to 12 teams you might ask? Look at the big picture, in 2017 there will be another 2 teams joining the league and by the time 2020 comes around there will be up to 24 teams now within the league. By 2020 the league's percentage of teams making the playoffs will be back down to 50%, which is a perfect percentage. Major League Soccer is growing larger and larger ever day, month, and year, so we have to accommodate to that.

Whether "less is actually more" Major League Soccer is growing to be more and more everyday. MLS Playoffs are the best time of the year, so sit back and enjoy the show!
